Halloween Favors

PTI-2009 Halloween Tags

It's been a rough couple of weeks at the Glazer household with each one of us taking our turn being deathly ill. I am the last one recovering from a very serious sinus infection that had me horizontal for a few days but I am on the road to recovery.

Unfortunately crafting took a back seat, except for these favors that I managed to to eek out for my daughter's Halloween party Friday. I used PTI's 2009 Halloween Tags to decorate little pails I found in the dollar bin at Target and filled with goodies. Super simple and a big hit with the kids.

I hope to visit my favorite blogs in the coming days and leave some love (I feel so out of touch). In the meantime, please check back tomorrow for the Close to My Heart November Stamp of the Month Blog Hop and STAY HEALTHY!

HBSB and H1N1

PTI-Vintage Picnic, Fancy Flourishes

There is good news and bad news this week. First the bad. Both my daughter and husband have the H1N1 virus (not confirmed) but apparently it's the only one going around in the area so it's assumed they have it. I on the other hand seem to have come down with a sinus infection (hoping that's all it is). Plenty of Lysol, hand washing, medication and bed rest and hopefully we will be recovered by the end of the week.

Now on to the good news and the reason for this card. Three of my projects (Spooky Luminary, Open If You Dare and Snowfriends Easel Card) were featured on Best of the Blogosphere over at Card of the Week, Susanna Boyd's site. Susanna is also part of the team over at Paper Craft Planet where the Supernovas are throwing her a birthday bash and have asked everyone to make her a birthday card. This is the one I made for her. I thought it was the least I could do for all the times she has featured my artwork on her site.

It is a pocket/slider card with a pop-up center. When you pull up the back, another image pops up from behind the top image. The stamped images are from PTI's Vintage Picnic stamp set which I colored with copics. The butterfly is from a Martha Stewart punch which I covered with stickles. The ribbon is also Martha Stewart.

Happy Birthday Susanna!

(FYI HBSB = Happy Birthday Susanna Boyd and H1N1 = Swine Flu)

Snowfriends Easel Card

CTMH-Snowfriends

There are two things I love about this card. First, this is one of my favorite CTMH seasonal stamp sets. It's called Snowfriends and it is a set of the most adorable snowmen. The second thing I love about this card is the way it displays your artwork. I got the instructions from Splitcoaststampers Technique Monday where the template was so generously shared by Penny Wessenauer. You can find the instructions HERE.

I know that I will be making these often. The first easel card I made involved a digi stamp and I am waiting for the artist to give me the go ahead to post. In the meantime, let me tell you a little about this card. The snowman image was stamped in Black Soot Distress Ink and then colored with copics. I added some glitter to the snowballs and Polar White Flower Soft on the bottom to look like snow. The snowflakes were made with a Martha Stewart punch and then embossed with polysparkle EP. I then layered them with snowflake brads to which I added stickles. The white fiber is a clearance find from the LSS. For my brace, I popped up my sentiment but as a variation for your easel cards, you could also use a brad or a button. As for the background, I made it using impressabilities, ink and perfect pearls. I hope to have a tutorial on how I did it sometime next week so please check back.

I hope you'll give making one of these a try.

Open If You Dare

PTI-2009 Halloween Tags

This was a fun card to make even though it's a bit complicated. I saw the instructions somewhere on Card of the Week and now I can't find the link, but I am searching for it and will post it when I find it. When you remove the belly band and open the card, the black circle "magically" opens up to reveal a spider dangling from his web. To get the full effect, take a look at the video below.

My daughter is the one who demos the card in the video, which I took with my iphone (my favorite gadget...it does almost everything). The paper is Basic Grey and the stamp set I used is PTI 2009 Halloween Tags. The "Boo" comes from the CTMH Spellbound stamp set. I'm not sure it shows up to but I used black EP to emboss stars from the PTI set onto the black cardstock in the magic window. I just love a little magic! Don't you?

ETA: I found it! Apparently this card is called the Marvelous Magical Marquee Card and was created by Jan Tinklenberg. The link to her site is HERE.

Spooky Luminary

CTMH-October Word Puzzle

Here's a new spin on one of my earlier templates, the Bijou Box. I made some minor adjustments to some of the measurements and used my cuttlebug and nestabilities on some paper from the LSS and viola! A really cute Halloween decoration. Inside is one of those battery operated votive candles.

The bats were made with a Martha Stewart punch and jazzed up with black stickles. I then attached them to leftover scraps of acetate. I sponged some Mustard Stazon onto the vellum pieces and then stamped the images in Black Stazon on top. I made a video for you with my iphone so you can get full effect (be kind...this is my first attempt).

Hope you'll stop back tomorrow for some Halloween magic.

Christmas Ornament Surprise

CTMH-Damask Tiles

Here is a Christmas ornament that is perfect for a teacher, day care provider or anyone you may be giving a gift card to this holiday season. It's pretty enough to hang on the tree, but when you turn it around, there is a pocket that can hold a gift card, check or even a little cash.

This one was made using the largest nestabilities scallop circle die which has a 4" diameter. I cut two scallop circles, one in Olive and one in Cranberry. I cut the Cranberry in half to make the pocket in the back. When making the pocket, remember to apply adhesive only to the BOTTOM perimeter of the scallop circle. For the front, I layered a smaller Cranberry circle. The Cranberry cardstock was stamped with an image from the CTMH Damask Tiles stamp set in Versamark and embossed with gold EP.

Happy Haunting

CTMH-Spellbound; PTI-2009 Halloween Tags

I know it's been awhile and I won't bore you with the gory details. Suffice it to say I have been "under the weather" and then a new Wegmans opened nearby and of course once I was feeling better, I had to check it out. What an awesome place. I find myself making excuses to go food shopping. Imagine that.

Now on to my card. I really love all the brayered cards I have seen but I have to admit, although I have one, I have no idea how to use it properly. Instead, I took out my blending tool and various Distress Inks to create the background for this card. The graves and the spooky fence you may recognize as Martha punches and the bats are negative scraps from an EK Success border punch. I used a white gel pen to highlight the branches of the tree and a yellow Sakura glaze pen for the eyes, nose and mouth of each pumpkin. It all comes together to create a pretty eerie Halloween scene. And if you have time, please check out my daughter's card in the post below.

Happy Halloween - Kara Style

Here's a Halloween card my daughter made using leftover scraps. Somehow I purchased duplicate gold and silver gel pens which I gave to her. This sent her on a crafting spree. She came up with this spooky fireplace using a Martha Stewart punch. Pretty creative don't you think!

Silhouette Gift Box

With the holiday season approaching, here is the perfect little box for gift giving. The final size is an approximate 3" x 3" cube ideal for holding little goodies like little candies, nuts, small soaps, etc. Perfect as a hostess gift or teacher gift. I found the directions for making this box HERE. I made the flower on top with scallop circles cut from vellum and water based markers. The paper is CTMH Silhouette B&T and the image is also CTMH from the Tickled Pink promo this summer stamped in Holiday Red ink.

Think Pink

I actually did make a card for World Card Making Day and here it is. It's a very special card for a very special person.

My girlfriend Jen will be doing the Philadelphia 3 - Day walk for Breast Cancer this Month. This is her second year doing this event after her own battle with breast cancer. She is definitely a survivor and an awesome person who inspires all those fortunate enough to know her. The event allows you to send cards and letters to participants so I made this one for her. The image is from Digital Delights and the setiment is from the CTMH Say it In Style stamp set. The image was printed on PTI white and colored with copic markers. All the other cardstock is CTMH. For the background, I used the swiss dot cuttlebug embossing folder on Watermellon cardstock and then sanded to reveal the white core.
