Books are Dreams

This weekend we celebrated my daughter's 14th birthday. I cannot believe how fast the time is passing and that she will be starting high school in the Fall! Usually I make her a card, but I found one at the store that said all the things I wanted so I bought her one instead (GASP!) and opted to make her something for her room.

She LOVES to read - so much so that I should own stock in Amazon. Within the first 3 weeks of Summer break, she had already finished 8 novels. Sometimes, she will spend a whole day in her room reading. Part of this is due to the fact that at the moment her phone is broken but even when it's not, she still prefers a book to TV.

When Krista released this image (Hammock Time), I knew it was perfect for my daughter. I added some titles to the books in Photoshop and added the quote which is a variation of a Neil Gaiman quote - "A book is a dream that you hold in your hands." I colored with copics and used a stencil and ink for the clouds and then I handprinted my daughter's name.

I bought the frame at a local craft store and used my Spellbinders to create the mat. My daughter loved it.

I apologize for the quality of the pics because they were taken with my iPhone but I cleaned them up as best as I could with Photoshop.

Thanks for stopping by.

Digi Choosday - Christmas Decor

This week, the theme for the Challenge at Digi Choosday is Christmas Decor and so I took the opportunity to make my yearly ornament for my daughter using this adorable little guy from the the Festive Hollybobs Collection. You can also get him separately HERE.

I printed him and colored him with my copics and then used a Spellbinders Oval die to cut him out. I used one of the Flower Soft Display Globes and added some chunky glitter along the edges and up along the sides to make it look like it was frosted.

I mounted it onto another decorative Spellbinders die and then added a couple of red adhesive pearls and silver cord for my hanger.

Be sure to head over to the Digi Choosday Blog to see what the other talented ladies have as inspiration and also be sure to add your project to the linky.

Today I want to show you a door hanging I made for my daughter. She loved the "Hunger Games" one I did for her so I decided to make another one but with a Christmas theme.

The image is from Saturated Canary and I colored it with Copics. The poinsettias are stickers and the snowflakes are from a Martha Stewart punch. I used the clear Wink of Stella glitter pen to go over the snowflakes to add sparkle. I also used the glitter pen on her wings after I colored them with my markers.

The base of the image is a piece of cereal box cut with a Spellbinders die and then covered with paper.

I love how it turned out and more importantly, so did my daughter.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas! I hope your day is filled with family, friends and the blessings of the season.

Flower Soft Snow Globe Ornament

Today, I am featuring the Flower Soft Snow Globes and I thought I would make an ornament for the Christmas Tree. I love the vintage look of this!

I used the Flower Soft Spellbinders Vintage Christmas kit for my
images and I simply cut them out with an oval die and popped it up on an oval base that was cut to the same size as my globe. I edged the images in gold ink, cut the "Peace" scroll from the included sheet and added some bling.  I did this on both sides of the base and the glued two globed back-to-back over the whole thing.

To hide the glue, I attached some cream lace along the edges of the globe using some scor-tape and then used my gold Wink of Stella pen to add some glitter along the edge of the lace.

I used a hole punch at the top so that I could add some gold cording for a hanger.

You could also use one Display Globe and leave the other side flat to create a beautiful tag for a special gift that could then be hung on the tree. I hope I sparked some ideas and you will give these a try.

Mixed Media Altered Box

I have a mixed media project to share with you today. I bought this little wooden box at the local craft store for $1 so I knew I wasn't going to be too upset if what I planned didn't work out.

I started by painting the inside and outside of the box with a couple different colors of the Silk Acrylic Glazes I recently acquired at the CK Convention. I stamped and added some die cuts from K & Company and then added some texture with modeling paste and a little cheese cloth.

I added a piece of patterned paper to the inside of the box and went
over it with some iridescent gel medium. I added some lace that I colored with glimmer mist along the edge of the lid.

My final touch was the flat-backed pearls and a dragonfly die cut.

I didn't really keep a list of all the products I used and the stamps came from various classes I have taken over the last couple years at CKC. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions (cibglazer[at]gmail[dot]com).

If you follow my blog, I'm sure you know who walked away with this little beauty...yup, my daughter.

For my project this month I created a fairly simple mixed media canvas using the Delicate Aster Vase stamp and some tissue paper. I stamped the image onto the tissue paper and then used very light Copic colors and a light hand to color the image. I then adhered it to my canvas with a little gel medium. I inked around the the edges of the tissue paper and canvas with Vintage Photo and Antique Linen Distress Stains and sprayed the whole piece with Walnut Gold Glimmer Mist, adding a pretty sheen. My final touch was to add some flat-backed adhesive pearls to the center of my flowers.

Now please be sure to check out the other ladies' blogs for some awesome inspiration using Heartfelt Creations products. You won't be disappointed.

Paper Crafts Magazine - Vintage Trinket Box

Have you picked up your copy of Paper Crafts Magazine Handmade Home Decor yet? Well when you do, be sure to check out page 20 for this cute little Trash to Treasure project made by yours truly. I took an empty tape roll and made it into a Vintage Trinket box using products from Heartfelt Creations.

I recently taught a class on how to make these and we also made a matching gift card to go along with the box. Here is the same box in a pink color scheme:

To give it a finished look I painted the rim of the roll with a coordinating paint color and I also added painted wooden feet to the bottom.

In oder to keep the box lid from sliding off, I cut several circles from chipboard just a little smaller than my tape roll opening. I glued them together and then painted the outer rim, attached a piece of cardstock to the bottom and then adhered the whole thing to the center of the inside lid.

I hope you will pick up your copy of the magazine. I am honored to have been included in this issue along with some super talented crafters. I have already bookmarked several projects from the magazine that I want to try.

Today, Heartfelt Creations is releasing a brand new set of stamps and exclusive dies called Sunny Day. This collection captures the tranquility of a sunny day in the garden; setting the tone with serene garden views and peaceful plant and butterfly harmonies is the Sunny Day Paper Collection. Stamps include bustling bees, a vintage watering can and botanical butterfly medleys. The Decorative Butterfly Corner Die in this collection will add unique versatility to any project. Be sure to leave a comment on the Heartfelt Creations Blog by February 19th and you will be eligible to win the entire release.

For my project this week, I created a tea box and napkin holder from a tutorial I found HERE. I  used one of the patterned papers from the collection and strategically cut it so that I could utilize the floral spray in my design. I added some die cut flowers to the spray and a pearl flourish to accent the butterfly I had stamped and cut from this collection. Although you probably can't see it in the picture, there is a small jar of jam that fits nicely between the two stacks of tea.

This would make a wonderful home decor item or even a hostess gift!

Be sure to check out the Heartfelt Creations Blog to get the complete instructions on how I made this project and also to see what the other designers made using this new collection. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I am entering this into the February Want2Scrap Challenge which can be found HERE.

This is my second post today and this project is also for a challenge - the Inky Chics Bingo Challenge. Here is the bingo card we had to use and I went diagonal and chose Die Cuts, Image and Flowers.

Last year, my daughter was enthralled by the Hunger Games trilogy and we just HAD to go see the movie when it came out. The subject matter was a little dark but it opened up a wonderful dialogue. When this Princess Honor digital image from the Saturated Canary came out, I immediately thought of Katniss, the heroine from the Hunger Games, who was amazing with a bow and arrow. I had planned to enter this into the Movie Challenge on the Saturated Canary Challenge Blog but somehow missed the deadline. No worries, I am just going to enter it into the Bingo Challenge instead.

I used the image to create a wall hanging for my daughter's "hang out" room. I printed it onto cardstock, colored it with my copics and then cut it out with one of the Grand Circle Nestabilities dies. I also cut a piece of a cereal box with the one of the Grand Labels 1 dies and covered both sides with cardstock and patterned paper and then adhered my image on top. I added some flowers from my stash and some dew drops.  I love the way this turned out and more important, so does my daughter so it's a winner in my book.

One other item of interest, I am doing a small giveaway and you can find the details HERE if you're interested. Have a wonderful weekend!

Flower Soft - Winter Wonderland Ornament

Christmas is almost here and I am still in the mood for decorating which is why this week's DT challenge was perfect.  We were to use the Winter Wonderland Card Creator kit for our projects. I found this ornament at Michael's the other day in the clearance bin. They are flatter than the traditional ornaments so I knew it would be perfect for this project.  I simply used a circle Spellbinder die to cut the image from the kit and rolled it around a stylus and slipped it into the ornament. I did the same for the back side. I then added a little Polar White Flower Soft, a ribbon and some silver cording. So simple!

Be sure to check out the Flower Soft Blog this week for more inspiration using this kit.

Flower Soft - Let It Snow Acrylic Frame

Today I have a quick and easy holiday project to show you.  I bought this acrylic frame for $.89 at some discount store last year.  I know how much I paid because the price tag was still on this one and the other five I bought. It doesn't count as hoarding if you use it, right?

I matted my picture and stamped along the edges with the snowflakes from the Flower Soft Christmas Sentiments stamp set and added an adhesive border from K & Company along the top.  After I slid it into the frame, I decorated the outside of the frame with a Die Cut Silhouette Sticker from the Christmas Sentiments collection and punched a couple of snowflakes using some Martha Stewart punches. These make great gifts for grandparents and you can even get your kids in on the fun of making them.

Be sure to check out the Flower Soft Blog for inspiration from the other Design Team ladies.
